A night at the opera in Vienna
The Vienna State Opera House is a world-famous opera company dating back to the times of the Habsburg Monarchy. It has one of the most magnificently ornate interiors, its elegance complemented by the opera goers dressed in their finest for a classy night out.
The night's production was a ballet. I came two hours ahead of time and managed to get inexpensive standing room tickets. As I waited for the show to start I watched the audience fill into the lobby. Lots of adorable old ladies, dressed in oversized coats, met up with each other before ascending the marble staircase into the auditorium. Other couples were dressed up in long gowns and tuxedos, one more dazzling than the next. I've always dreamed of attending an opera, except in something a bit more fitting than a sweater and jeans.
